Left
Behind : The old National
Guard Armory in Flint MI
The
former National Guard armory on Chavez Drive was moved to Saginaw
because the Flint facility needed $6 million in repairs.
The 90-year-old armory is next to Avondale Cemetery and is the former
headquarters for the 125th Infantry Battalion.
Officials opted for the change because the facility needs an estimated
$6 million in repairs on plumbing, electrical, telecommunications,
and foundation, roof, and heating, air conditioning and ventilation
systems, according to The Flint Journal's archives.
The armory is this week's installment of #Throwback Thursday.

to the National Guard and armory.
Flint's armory is home to the National Guard's 125th Infantry Regiment
and the 25,000-square-foot, four-story building is home base for six
companies and is made up of 700 soldiers.
The armory has a long, storied history here. It replaced an armory
that had been located on Saginaw Street in downtown Flint and was
used as an emergency morgue after the 1953 Beecher tornado left 116
dead.
A 2002 Flint Journal story reported that some former soldiers have
claimed the building is haunted, quoting guardsmen who said they heard
voices and footsteps in empty rooms.

This was a wild
investigation!
This place is nearly 100 years old and has seen its fair share of tragedy
and hope. The building itself is absolutely MASSIVE and still has a
lot of really cool stuff to check out. We still did not find the tunnels?
